Soccer corners betting: totals, handicaps and races

Corners betting lets you bet on the number of corner kicks in a match rather than the score. The most common bet is total corners over or under a line such as 9.5.

How the line is set

Books start from each team’s average corners won and conceded. A side that wins 6 corners at home playing a team that concedes 5 away points to a high total.

Style matters. Teams that attack down the wings and cross a lot win more corners than teams that pass through the middle.

Game state matters most. A team that falls behind pushes forward and often wins many late corners, so close games and upsets tend to raise totals.

10.5+125-15544.4%
11.5+170-22037.0%

Made-up prices; implied rates ignore the margin.

Team corners and handicaps

Team corners lets you back one side only. A strong favorite at home may have a team line of 6.5 corners, priced around even money.

Corner handicaps work like a point spread. If you take the away team +2.5 and corners finish 7 to 5 for the home side, the away bet wins because 5 plus 2.5 beats 7.

Race to corners pays the first team to reach a set number, such as 5. If neither reaches it, the bet usually loses or pays a separate neither outcome.

Rules and settlement

Most corners markets settle on 90 minutes plus stoppage time. Extra time and penalty shootouts in cup games do not count unless the market says so.

A corner must be taken to count. A corner awarded but not taken before half-time or full-time usually does not count. A retaken corner counts once.

If a match is abandoned, unsettled corners bets are usually void, while markets already decided, such as first corner, may stand.

A worked example

A home favorite that wins 6.5 corners per game hosts a side that concedes 5.5 away. The total corners line is 10.5 at +110 over and -140 under.

The home team scores early and sits back, so the away team chases and wins most late corners. The match ends 7 to 5 in corners, a total of 12.

A $10 over bet at +110 returns $21. A $10 bet on away +2.5 on the corner handicap also wins, because 5 plus 2.5 is more than 7.

After the 90 seconds

Questions before and after you play

A 90-second guide cannot cover every table moment. Tap a group, then a question — answers are short paragraphs, not one-liners.

01Basics

What is a total corners bet?

A bet on whether the total corner kicks taken in a match go over or under the line set by the sportsbook.

How many corners are there in a game?

Top leagues average about 10 corners per match, though single games range from 2 to more than 20.

Does a goal from a corner matter?

No. Only the number of corners taken counts; goals do not change the corners total.

02Rules

Does extra time count?

Usually not. Most corners markets settle on 90 minutes plus stoppage time only, so check each market.

Does a retaken corner count twice?

No. A corner that is retaken is normally counted once, but each sportsbook sets its own rule.

What if the match is abandoned?

Unsettled corners bets are usually void and stakes returned, while already decided markets may stand.

03Strategy

Why do trailing teams win more corners?

Teams chasing a game push players forward and cross more, so defenders clear more balls behind for corners.

Are corners easier to predict than goals?

Corners are more frequent, so results are steadier, but game state still causes big swings.
