The nine outcomes

Each pick has two parts: home, draw or away at half-time, then home, draw or away at full-time. Three times three gives nine combinations.

Draw at half-time is very common, because the first half often ends level. Many matches finish draw/home or draw/away.

Comeback picks, such as away/home, are rare and pay large prices. They need a team to trail at the break and still win.

When HT/FT makes sense

If you expect a strong favorite to win, home/home pays more than a plain win bet. It needs the favorite to lead at half-time too.

Teams that start fast suit home/home or away/away picks. Teams that tire late or bring on strong subs suit draw/win picks.

Because both parts must be right, HT/FT bets lose more often. Keep stakes smaller than for a simple match result.

Rules and settlement

HT/FT bets settle on 90 minutes plus stoppage time. Extra time and penalty shootouts do not count.

If a match is abandoned, most books void HT/FT bets unless both results are already settled, which can only happen after full-time.

Own goals count toward the result like any other goal.

Floor rules

HT/FT terms

Know before you sit

HT/FT
Half-time/full-time.
Draw/Home
Level at break, home wins.
Comeback
Trail at break, then win.
Stoppage time
Added time each half.

A worked example

A home favorite is +105 to win the match and +380 on draw/home. You expect a slow start and late goals, so you bet $10 on draw/home.

The first half ends 0-0. The home team scores in the 61st and 84th minutes and wins 2-0. Your bet wins and returns $48, a profit of $38.

If the home team had scored in the first half, the pick would have lost, even with the same final result. A plain win bet would have paid $20.50 either way. The extra payout is the price of needing the half-time result right too.

Common mistakes

Overrating comebacks
Rare outcomes.
Forgetting extra time
It does not count.
Large stakes
Two parts to win.
Ignoring draw/win
Common pattern.

Cup ties and two legs

In two-leg cup ties, HT/FT still settles on each single match. The aggregate score and away goals do not matter for the bet.
