Odds and implied chance
| Odds | Decimal | Implied chance |
|---|---|---|
| -120 | 1.83 | 54.5% |
| +100 | 2.00 | 50% |
| +150 | 2.50 | 40% |
| +250 | 3.50 | 28.6% |
| +400 | 5.00 | 20% |
| +800 | 9.00 | 11.1% |
Implied chance = 1 ÷ decimal odds, before the book’s margin.
What counts as a goal
The scorer is the player credited by the match officials or the competition’s official data provider. If a shot deflects in, the result follows the official scorer, which can change after review.
Own goals never count for an anytime bet. Penalties in normal time count, but goals in a penalty shootout do not. Extra time is usually excluded too, so a goal in the 105th minute of a cup tie often does not win.
If your player does not take part at all, most sportsbooks void the bet. If he comes on as a substitute, the bet stands, even if he plays only five minutes.
Expected goals and chance to score
| xG per match | Chance of 1+ goal | Fair odds |
|---|---|---|
| 0.20 | 18.1% | +452 |
| 0.35 | 29.5% | +239 |
| 0.50 | 39.3% | +154 |
| 0.65 | 47.8% | +109 |
| 0.80 | 55.1% | -123 |
Our own sums using a Poisson model; real chances depend on minutes and matchup.
Reading a player’s chances
Expected goals, or xG, measures the quality of a player’s shots. A striker who averages 0.5 xG per 90 minutes has about a 39% chance of scoring at least once in a full match, using a simple Poisson model.
Minutes change everything. A player likely to be subbed off after 60 minutes has about two-thirds of that scoring time. Rotation in busy weeks and returns from injury cut minutes too.
Penalty duty adds value. A team’s first-choice taker gets extra chances that ordinary shot data can miss. Opponent strength and whether a team is likely to chase the game also shape the price.

Anytime vs first goalscorer
A first goalscorer bet wins only if your player scores the match’s first goal. Because only one player can do that, odds are much longer, often four or five times the anytime price for the same player.
Many books also offer last goalscorer, scorer to score twice and scorer-and-result combinations. These add more conditions, so they pay more and win less often.
Margins in scorer markets are higher than on the match result. Shopping between licensed books for the same player can recover a large share of that margin.

01Basics
What is an anytime goalscorer bet?
A bet that your player will score at least one goal in the match, usually counting 90 minutes plus stoppage time.
Do own goals count?
No. Own goals are not credited to the player who touched the ball last, so they never win an anytime bet.
Do extra time goals count?
Usually not. Most sportsbooks settle these bets on regular time only, so check the house rules.
02Rules
What if my player is a substitute?
If he comes on, the bet stands for the minutes he plays. If he never enters, the bet is usually void.
Do penalties count?
Penalties scored in normal time count, but goals in a penalty shootout do not. Rules differ between licensed sportsbooks, so read the house rules.
Who decides the scorer?
The official match record or data provider, which can change after a review. Rules differ between licensed sportsbooks, so read the house rules.
03Value
How do I turn odds into a chance?
Divide 1 by the decimal odds. Odds of 2.50, or +150, imply about 40% before the margin.
Is anytime better than first scorer?
It wins more often but pays less. Both carry high margins, so compare prices. Rules differ between licensed sportsbooks, so read the house rules.
