Yo payouts and house edge
| Payout | Return on $5 win | House edge |
|---|---|---|
| 15 to 1 | $80 ($75 + $5) | 11.1% |
| 15 for 1 (14 to 1) | $75 (stake included) | 16.7% |
| 16 to 1 (rare) | $85 | 5.6% |
Edge = (ways to win × pay − ways to lose) ÷ 36.
How the bet works
You can make a yo bet on any roll, including the come-out. Toss your chips to the stickman and call “yo” or “yo-eleven.” The bet is settled on the very next roll.
If the dice show 11, you win. Any other total loses. Many players say “yo” instead of “eleven” because “eleven” can sound like “seven” across a noisy table.
If you win, the bet usually stays up for the next roll unless you ask the dealer to take it down. Ask if you want your winnings and original bet back.

Doing the math
Out of 36 possible combinations, 2 make 11 and 34 do not. At 15 to 1, a $1 bet wins $15 twice and loses $1 thirty-four times over 36 rolls on average: 30 − 34 = −4. So you lose $4 per $36 bet, an 11.1% edge.
At “15 for 1,” the $15 includes your stake, so you win $14. That gives 28 − 34 = −6, a 16.7% edge. The wording on the layout matters.
Compare that with the pass line at 1.41% or odds bets at 0%. The yo costs about eight times as much per dollar as the pass line, so keep it to small, occasional bets.

When players use it
Some players bet the yo on the come-out roll alongside the pass line, because 11 wins the pass line too. That adds action but also adds cost.
Others use it as a hedge when they have don’t pass bets, since 11 loses the don’t pass on the come-out. A hedge like this reduces swings but raises the total house edge you pay.
Dealers may ask for a yo bet for the crew, a common way to tip. If you tip this way, the dealers win only if 11 rolls. A line bet for the dealers is a cheaper way to tip.

01Basics
What is a yo bet in craps?
A one-roll bet that the next roll will total 11, called “yo” so it is not confused with seven.
What are the odds of rolling 11?
2 in 36, or about 1 in 18, since only 5-6 and 6-5 make 11. House rules can vary, so check the table placard or ask the dealer.
What does the yo pay?
Usually 15 to 1, though some tables pay 15 for 1, which is one unit less. House rules can vary, so check the table placard or ask the dealer.
02House edge
What is the house edge on the yo?
11.1% at 15 to 1 and 16.7% at 15 for 1, much higher than pass line bets. House rules can vary, so check the table placard or ask the dealer.
Why does “to 1” vs “for 1” matter?
“For 1” includes your stake in the payout, so you win one unit less each time. House rules can vary, so check the table placard or ask the dealer.
Is the yo better than any seven?
Yes at 15 to 1: 11.1% vs 16.7%, but both are costly compared with line bets. House rules can vary, so check the table placard or ask the dealer.
