All, Tall and Small: the craps side bets explained
Small wins if 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 are all rolled before a 7. Tall wins if 8 through 12 all come first. All needs every number. At the common 34 and 175 to 1 pays, the house edge is about 7.5% to 7.8%.

Why the 2 and 12 are hard
There is only one way to roll a 2 and one way to roll a 12. A 7 can be rolled six ways, so it often comes first.
That is why Small and Tall win only about 2.6% of the time, even though they need just five numbers each.
Ways to roll each number
| Number | Ways | Number | Ways |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 1 | 8 | 5 |
| 3 | 2 | 9 | 4 |
| 4 | 3 | 10 | 3 |
| 5 | 4 | 11 | 2 |
| 6 | 5 | 12 | 1 |
A 7 can be rolled 6 ways out of 36.
How the bet stays up
Unlike most bets, these last across several hands. A 7 on the come-out roll ends them, even though it wins the pass line.
Some casinos let the bet carry over when a shooter makes a point and continues. Once it is made, it cannot be taken down.

A worked example
You bet $5 on Tall at 34 to 1. The shooter rolls 8, 10, 9, 12, 8 and then 11 before any 7.
All five tall numbers came up, so your bet wins $170 plus your $5 back.
Bonus Craps
The bet was made popular under the name Bonus Craps and is now on many Las Vegas tables.
Electronic craps machines often include it too, sometimes with a bonus display that lights each number.
The math is the same on machines as on live tables. The table often uses small markers or lights to show which numbers have been rolled so far.
Common mistakes
- Betting after the come-out
- Most casinos do not allow it.
- Missing the pay table
- 30 to 1 is much worse.
- Big stakes on long odds
- Most of these bets lose.
- Thinking hot dice matter
- Every roll is independent.
Wins are rare
A $5 Small or Tall bet loses about 37 times for each win.
Even at 34 to 1, that means long losing runs are normal.
Treat these bets as a small, fun extra, not the main part of your play. Because the bet can last several hands, a new shooter may continue the same bet if the casino allows it.

Side bet terms
Know before you sit
- Small
- Rolls of 2 through 6.
- Tall
- Rolls of 8 through 12.
- All
- Every number except 7.
- Seven out
- A 7 that ends the hand.
- Contract bet
- A bet that cannot be taken down.
Pays and rules
Some casinos state pays as for 1, which includes the stake. 35 for 1 is the same as 34 to 1.
A few venues offer bigger pays on smaller tables to attract players.
Ask the dealer if the layout does not show the pay clearly.
