Online gambling deposit limits
A deposit cap is a licence tool. Licensed interactive operators must offer it where the rulebook says so. Unlicensed sites have no duty to honor yours.

Limit vs exclusion
Know before you sit
- Deposit limit
- A cap on how much you can add. New Jersey’s interactive rules require licensed operators to offer deposit and RG limits (N.J.A.C. 13:69O).
- Self-exclusion
- A ban list licensed operators must honor. See Self-exclusion for online gaming. Different form, same “licence-bound” logic.
- Unlicensed site
- No 13:69O duty. Michigan’s C&D letters make the same point for self-exclusion.
Sequence
How to use a real cap
Step 01
Be on a licensed client
If the format status is not legal where you sit, there is no board cap to enforce.
Step 02
Set the limit in that client’s RG tools
Cool-off and deposit caps are usually in account / responsible-gaming settings.
Step 03
If a licensee ignores it
Use that board’s complaint path — DGE, PGCB, MGCB — not a social-media thread.

01What limits do
Do licensed online sites have to offer deposit limits?
Where the rulebook says so, yes. New Jersey’s interactive gaming rules (N.J.A.C. 13:69O) require licensed interactive operators to offer deposit and responsible-gaming limits. Other live iGaming states write similar duties into the licence. Unlicensed sites are outside that net.
Is there one US deposit-limit law?
No. Each state writes its own RG conditions. Our rg-programs file stores 47 program statuses (checked Oct 13, 2026). This page explains the mechanic; it does not paste 47 statutes.
02Advice
Is this page legal or medical advice?
No. It restates licence-bound RG tools. If gambling is harming you, call 1-800-GAMBLER or use that state’s self-exclusion program. Counsel notice appears on regulation pages automatically.
03More questions people ask
Can the operator set a limit for me?
Yes. Regulations in several states let operators impose limits or cool-offs when their monitoring flags risky play, such as fast deposit increases or repeated failed deposits. You can ask support why a limit was set.
Do limits reset at midnight?
Daily limits usually reset at midnight in the operator time zone, weekly limits on a fixed weekday and monthly limits on the first of the month. The responsible gaming page shows the exact reset time.
Do limits apply to bonus money?
Usually the deposit limit counts only money you add from your bank or card. Wager limits and loss limits can count bonus play too, depending on the operator terms approved by the regulator. Read the responsible gaming page of the app.
What is the difference between a deposit limit and a loss limit?
A deposit limit caps money you add to the account. A loss limit caps how much you can lose over a period, counting wins. Some states require operators to offer both; deposit limits are the most common.
Are deposit limits required by law?
In regulated online casino states such as New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Michigan, regulations require operators to offer deposit, spend and time limits. You choose whether to set them.
Why can I lower a limit instantly but not raise it?
Regulators require a waiting period, often 24 to 72 hours, before an increase takes effect so that a decision made in a losing streak can cool down.
Does a limit carry across apps?
No. Each operator keeps its own limits. Only a state self-exclusion list covers every licensed operator in the state.
