Self-exclusion by state

There is no single US self-exclusion button. We store 47 state/DC program statuses. Each list is a contract with that state’s licensed operators — not with offshore sites.

01National vs state

Is there a US-wide gambling self-exclusion list?

No. Our file stores 47 state and DC program statuses (checked Oct 13, 2026). Each program binds licensed operators in that jurisdiction. A nationwide kill switch does not exist. Unlicensed and offshore sites have no duty to honor any of them.

Does one state’s list cover online and land?

Sometimes you choose; sometimes they are separate. New Jersey’s DGE program covers Atlantic City facilities, racetrack sportsbooks, and/or internet gaming depending on what you enroll. Read that form. Do not assume Michigan’s database matches New Jersey’s.

02Advice

Is this page legal or medical advice?

No. It points at rg-programs.json and the national self-exclusion guide. If gambling is harming you, call 1-800-GAMBLER or use that state’s enrollment page. Counsel notice appears on regulation pages automatically.

03More questions people ask

Does self-exclusion in one state cover other states?

No. Each state runs its own list, so you sign up in every state where you play. A few operators extend a ban across their brands nationally, but that is a company policy, not state law.

How long does self-exclusion last?

Most states offer 1-year, 5-year and lifetime terms. New Jersey offers 1 or 5 years for online gaming; Pennsylvania offers 1 year, 5 years or lifetime. Removal before the term ends is not allowed.

Is there a national helpline?

Yes. 1-800-GAMBLER is run by the National Council on Problem Gambling and routes you to your state service, free and confidential, 24 hours a day.

Can I still collect winnings while excluded?

Usually no. Excluded players who gamble anyway typically forfeit the winnings, often to a state problem gambling fund. The operator also has to close the account and return the remaining balance.
