Paroli betting system: let wins ride, three steps at a time
The Paroli doubles your bet after each win and goes back to one unit after a loss or after three wins in a row. It risks only one unit at a time, but it needs a streak to profit.

Key numbers
Paroli at a glance
In short
Key takeaways
- A full Paroli cycle needs three wins in a row, which happens about one time in nine or ten on red.
- Each failed cycle costs exactly one unit, so losing runs are cheap but frequent.
- The system is the opposite of Martingale: it presses wins, not losses.
- Over many bets, expected loss equals total action times the house edge.
On the wheel
Three spins of a Paroli on red
Spin 1: red 3
$5 wins; next bet $10
Spin 2: red 12
$10 wins; next bet $20
Spin 3: black 8
$20 loses; reset to $5, cycle net −$5
The cycle lost only the first $5, because the rest of the bets were winnings.
How cycles end on a 00 wheel
| Outcome | Chance | Units |
|---|---|---|
| Lose first bet | 52.6% | −1 |
| Win 1, then lose | 24.9% | −1 |
| Win 2, then lose | 11.8% | −1 |
| Win all 3 | 10.6% | +7 |
Average result per cycle is a small loss, matching the house edge on the money bet.
Why Paroli feels good
Sessions with the Paroli tend to lose slowly. Most cycles cost a single unit, and the occasional streak pays seven.
Because you never add your own money after a loss, a cold table rarely wipes you out fast.
Sequence
Running the Paroli
Step 01
Choose a unit
About 1% to 2% of your session money.
Step 02
Bet one unit
On an even-money bet.
Step 03
Win: double the bet
Let the win ride.
Step 04
Three wins: bank and reset
Take the 7 units and start again.
Step 05
Any loss: reset
Go back to one unit.
Why it still loses
Each cycle bets an average of about 2.85 units. The edge applies to every unit bet, so the average loss per cycle is about 0.15 unit on a 00 wheel.
Changing the reset point to two or four wins changes how often you win a cycle, not the average cost.
Using Paroli in craps and blackjack
On the pass line, the edge is only 1.41%, so a Paroli costs much less than on roulette.
In blackjack, doubles and splits make bet sizes uneven. Most players apply the steps only to the starting bet.

Paroli terms
Know before you sit
- Positive progression
- A system that raises bets after wins.
- Cycle
- The run of bets from one unit until a reset.
- Reset
- Going back to the starting unit.
- Let it ride
- Leaving a win on the table as the next bet.
A 30-cycle session
Play 30 Paroli cycles with $5 units on red. On average about three cycles reach three wins and pay $35 each, while 27 cycles lose $5 each.
That is about $105 won and $135 lost, a net loss near $30. Some nights two extra streaks turn it into a win; others have none.
Common mistakes
- Pushing past the reset point
- Going for a fourth or fifth win risks the whole cycle profit on a single spin.
- Raising the base unit after a win
- A bigger unit makes every losing cycle cost more.
- Thinking streaks are due
- Each spin is independent. A run of losses does not make a streak more likely.
- Playing on a 00 wheel
- The double-zero edge nearly doubles the cost compared with a single-zero wheel.

01How it works
What is the Paroli system?
A positive progression where you double your bet after each win and reset after a loss or after three wins in a row. You only risk your first unit each cycle.
How much does a Paroli cycle win?
With a three-step reset, a full cycle wins 7 units: 1 + 2 + 4. Any loss before that ends the cycle down 1 unit.
How often does a cycle win?
On red at a 00 wheel, three wins in a row happen about 10.6% of the time, roughly one cycle in nine or ten.
02Risk
Is the Paroli safer than Martingale?
It risks less money on losing runs, because it never adds your own money after a loss. It still has the same edge on every bet.
Can the Paroli beat roulette?
No. It changes the pattern of wins and losses, but the expected loss is still total action times the house edge.
What reset point is best?
Three wins is the classic choice. Two wins pays more often but less, and four pays rarely but more. The average cost is about the same.
03Practice
Which games suit the Paroli?
Even-money bets with low edges, such as the pass line in craps or red and black on a single-zero wheel.
Can I use it online?
Yes. Many players use auto-bet tools, but set a stop loss and keep the reset rule fixed before you start.
Is the Paroli allowed in casinos?
Yes. Casinos allow any betting pattern as long as you stay within table limits and do not slow the game unduly.
