How to verify a sportsbook licence

A sportsbook permit is a sports-row fact, not an iGaming permit. Open that board’s sports list, match the exact site, and stop if the row is missing.

NJ DGE uses internet-gaming sites page for sports pools. Pennsylvania uses a separate sports-wagering operators list. Use the sports URL.

Why the casino list is the wrong gate

New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement publishes internet gaming sites, and our sports row points at that same page for statewide sports pools (P.L. 2018, c. 33; N.J.A.C. 13:69N). Pennsylvania does not. PGCB keeps a distinct online sports-wagering licensed operators page. Verifying a Pennsylvania book on an iGaming-only list is a fail unless the Board says the lists are the same.

Illinois books are on the Gaming Board’s authorized operating sportsbooks page, under 230 ILCS 45. New York mobile books are on the Gaming Commission sports-wagering page, Racing Law § 1367-a. Type the .gov host. Do not follow an ad.

If the sports cell is on-property — Washington, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin — a statewide app match is the wrong test. See On Property Sports Betting Meaning. Catalogue doors use the postal code: Illinois sports betting, Pennsylvania sports betting, New York sports betting, New Jersey sports betting.

Sequence

Four moves, in order

  1. Step 01

    Read the sports cell first

If it is not-legal, verification cannot mint a permit. California and Texas fail here.

  2. Step 02

Open the sports URL, not a review site

IGB, PGCB, NYSGC, or NJ DGE — the chips above. Re-open the live page. Cached blogs go stale.

  3. Step 03

Match legal name and site path

Close enough fails. A land casino licence does not by itself authorize the internet book.

  4. Step 04

    Confirm where you are standing

Geofence for a live statewide cell. Facility rules for on-property. Then stop.

01How to check

How do I verify a sportsbook is licensed?

Open the sports roster for the state you are standing in: Illinois Gaming Board authorized sportsbooks, Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board sports-wagering operators, New York Gaming Commission sports wagering, or New Jersey DGE’s internet gaming sites page for NJ pools. Match the exact site. If the sports cell is not-legal, there is no permit to verify.

Can I use the casino iGaming list instead?

Only if that board says the same roster covers sports pools. New Jersey’s stored sports source is the DGE internet-gaming sites page. Pennsylvania publishes a separate sports-wagering operators page. When the board splits the lists, the sports URL wins.
